You know her name. You know her year. Now discover more about American Girl’s newest historical character! The company has revealed the Caroline doll and where her story takes place — Sackets Harbor, New York, on the shores of Lake Ontario as the War of 1812 begins.
While writing the six books about Caroline, I learned a lot about Sackets Harbor and it’s fascinating history. Stayed tuned for more about Caroline as we all count down to her debut…

I’m really excited! She’s a beautiful doll, and I’m so happy she’s going to live by water.

Amy, it was great fun to develop story ideas for a character living right beside Lake Ontario!

She’s beautiful and her setting sounds really interesting. I can’t wait to know more. I keep wondering who did the illustrations for your stories! I think this series will be enchanting. It’s already on pre-order. Congratulations 🙂 With your thoroughness, I know this will be really steeped in historic & local touches!
I design for AG dolls by the name of Dollhouse Designs. I’ve been working on some Caroline fashions but now I have a complexion to go with 🙂 http://www.facebook.com/pages/Dollhouse-Designs/118763654824722

Renee, I’m checking to make sure that it’s OK for me to name the artist. I can tell you that the illustrations are gorgeous! The setting and historical events provided lots of inspiration for all of us.

Oh thank you! I cannot wait to see them 🙂 We’ve been so excited to get some more news and now know her town & she’s got a maritime connection. This promises to be an exciting story. I am still trying to figure out her eye color -looks like a pretty sea blue-green.

Renee, illustrations for the Caroline books were done by a very talented team! Robert Papp did the cover art, as well as several page-size illustrations in each book. Lisa Papp did vignettes–small spot art that illustrate details or certain moments in each story. I am delighted with their work–truly gorgeous!

Oh Thank you, Kathleen 🙂
I appreciate your checking and going through that just because I asked about it! They are a talented team. Now, it’s just more waiting for the stories themselves, but thankfully it won’t be TOO much longer…. I often wonder how an author can stand all that waiting! Publishing is a lengthy process 🙂

I think you are a wonderful writer. I like all your books, but my favorite is Secrets in the Hills because you captured the beauty of New Mexico in your story. My mom has pre-ordered the Caroline books for me and I am excited to read them. Will you do a book signing tour? Please come to the Denver store if you do. I would so like to meet you!

Hi Caroline (what a lovely name!) – Thanks for stopping by and sharing your kind comments. I’m so glad you enjoyed Secrets in the Hills! I loved having the opportunity to discover Josefina’s time and place while working on that book. At the moment I don’t have a visit to Denver on the calendar, but I would love to come one day!

Congratulations and I’m very excited. This weekend my daughter announced she wanted an American Girl doll that looked like her. Maybe this can be the one, plus we can squeeze a little history in there.
